WHY SUPPORT BAJA BLUES TOUR?
The Baja Blues Tour is an ongoing food drive campaign of the Blues Against Hunger Society, a group dedicated to feeding the hungry with blues music. BAHS' mission is to produce free live blues music food drive events for collecting nonperishable food donations for local food banks. BAHS feels hunger and blues come from the same origin - poverty. In 2015, 14.5 million or approximately 20 percent of children in the U.S. lived in poverty.
BAHS feel blues is a style of music ideal for bringing people together, both music fans of all kinds, and musicians alike, all to help our community. All BAHS events are FREE to the public. BAHS do not accept cash donations, only food. If you wish to donate money, you can contact the food bank in your area, or refer to the Feeding America list provided below. If you wish to support BAHS so that BAHS may continue producing food drive blues events, please join BAHS.
WHY DONATE FOOD?
According to Feeding America (http://www.feedingamerica.org/), Good nutrition, particularly in the first three years of life, is important for establishing a good foundation that has implications for a child’s future physical and mental health, academic achievement, and economic productivity.Unfortunately, food insecurity is an obstacle that threatens that critical foundation. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 13.1 million children under 18 in the United States live in households where they are unable to consistently access enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy life. Although food insecurity is harmful to any individual, it can be particularly devastating among children due to their increased vulnerability and the potential for long-term consequences.
HUNGER FACTS:
- 795 million people – or one in nine people in the world – do not have enough to eat.
- 60 percent of the world's hungry are women.
- Nearly half of all deaths in children under 5 are attributable to under-nutrition. This translates into the unnecessary loss of about 3 million young lives a year.
- Every 10 seconds, a child dies from hunger-related diseases.
WHAT TO DONATE:
Some examples of non-perishable foods include peanut butter, crackers, canned fruits, canned vegetables, dried fruits and powdered milk. Canned meats, such astuna, salmon, turkey and chicken, are non-perishable foods that are excellent sources of protein. Canned soup and chili adds variety to an emergency food supply.Examples of donated non-perishable food include: peanut butter, canned vegetables, canned fruit, rice, prepared dinners, canned tuna, cold drinks, powdered milk, coffee and tea, canned soups and stew.
